Siobhan Hayden | Brit Insurance
As a fun-loving, pink-mad ACCA qualified accountant, I arrived at Brit Insurance in May 2019 and felt right at home. As inclusion and diversity gained momentum, I got involved with the LGBTQ and the multigenerational workplace employee resource groups. I was hugely impressed with the range of ages of our employees and how that could be leveraged to take advantage of different skills, life experience and mentoring. My financial operations role has meant that I have encouraged other colleagues across Brit to be open to sharing knowledge and utilising other people’s skills. Life is like a train journey – we stop along the way, meeting people and making decisions. Some people travel with us, others we enjoy knowing but leave behind. Some decisions go well, others not, so we change direction.
There is no right or wrong path, everyone has to find their own journey.
At 50 I still feel I am at the beginning of that journey. There is no right or wrong path, everyone has to find their own journey. My advice: just be yourself. For me that means wearing bright colours, laughing a lot, baking as often as I can, eating chocolate at any time and making each day the best it can be. I would not change a thing and I believe the next 50 years will be a very exciting time for us all. Remember – age is just a number!
