I can safely say when I left school I did not ever think I would end up working in the insurance industry, let alone spend 30 years doing so! My first step into insurance was working as a Twilight processor – as the mother of two pre-school boys, the hours suited my needs. Over the years I moved into various roles in the company, including customer service, technical motor underwriting, and cover note control, before stepping into IT.
Roll on 21 years and I am still here as an IT developer. This role means that I have been at the heart of so much important technical and technological development over the years and worked on a lot of major developments. Every development is different and each has its own challenges, which makes the work so interesting and varied.
Make sure you do a job you love; it is not just about the money.
I think the best advice I was given was to make sure you do a job you love; it is not just about the money.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family. There is nothing better than relaxing with a good book and being able to travel to enjoy the different cultures and cuisines around the world.
