Beth Worrall | Marsh
Having worked as a Claims Handler, at the age of 26 I decided to pursue my dream of being a translator, so I went to live in Seville and then Brussels to learn Spanish and French to a high level. Since then I have added Portuguese and Italian to my languages. Returning to the insurance industry in a role that enabled me to use my languages to the full was a great move and I love my job.
I would stress that it is never too late to learn, and never to late to go for what you really want.
I am now 58 years old and have been with Marsh McLennan for 28 years, and no two days have been the same. Having achieved a law degree and an MA in my 50s, I would stress that it is never too late to learn, and never too late to go for what you really want.
To be in a job that you love is the best thing you could wish for. I am studying Arabic (for pleasure, not work) and also volunteer on an ad hoc basis with a housing association, assessing tenders for housing projects. I am part of a small running group of women aged 50 – 70 and I find both the running and the coffees afterwards very therapeutic.
