Alison Slater | Zurich
After leaving school at 16, I joined a youth training scheme as an administration clerk whilst attending college to learn business skills. At 17 I started working for a large insurance company in the City and 36 years later I still am! I have always enjoyed helping people and this inevitably led me into a number of training and leadership roles where I was able to hone my skills whilst doing a job that I loved. A chance encounter with an inspirational speaker back in 2017 got me interested in becoming a counsellor and I embarked on what was to become the most challenging yet rewarding five years of my life.
At 53 I feel much more accepting of self and others and have a calmer, more measured approach to life.
I am now a qualified counsellor and I volunteer at a couple of local charities where I see clients with a wide range of issues that talking therapy can help them work through. I also work as a skills tutor where I help counselling students practice their skills. Zurich’s flexible working policy has enabled me to work 4 days a week and focus on counselling in my free time. At 53 I feel much more accepting of self and others and have a calmer, more measured approach to life.
