During my varied career, I have been exceptionally fortunate to have been involved in some really exciting change initiatives. I am now a senior business architect with over 30 years’ experience in insurance and change. A few years ago, our CEO asked for people to be part of setting up new employee networks. I was the only person who stepped forward saying we need to talk about age inclusion, recognising the unique perspectives and experiences of people of all ages, from those just starting out on their professional careers, through to people transitioning to retirement.
I think it is important to remain curious, actively challenge yourself to experience new things and expand into different areas.
As a result, our Age and Life Stages Network was established and we have had many notable successes, including launching menopause guidelines and creating a new reverse mentoring programme that joins up people from different generations to swap knowledge and experiences. Both campaigns went global and then in 2021 I accepted the challenge to establish and chair our Global Age Inclusion Employee Network.
I think it’s important to remain curious, actively challenge yourself to experience new things and expand into different areas. Often you will find yourself on an exciting path of discovery, taking you in directions that you never imagined. Oh, and be respectful, smile and enjoy the journey!
