Paula Jefferson | BLM
As a newly qualified solicitor in the mid 90s I began working with insurers. Working with the insurance industry has been the mainstay of my career, advising on claims for personal injury and disease, and ultimately a focus on those due to sexual abuse. I sit on the Forum of Insurance Lawyers Abuse Special Interest Group and am currently part of the IUA Working Party to develop a rehabilitation code for use in abuse claims. I am also a leader within BLM in creating an equal, diverse and inclusive workplace and have worked with insurers in promoting LGBTQ+ awareness and allyship, as well as employer support for employees suffering domestic abuse.
Be prepared to change and develop your career as you and the world around you changes.
My career advice is to be flexible and prepared to accept new challenges. Opportunities may arise which take you in a totally unexpected career trajectory. Seize those opportunities, even if there are risks associated with them, and be prepared to change and develop your career as you and the world around you changes. Enjoy your work and find a work-life balance that works for you and your employer.
My interests include theatre, art, food, travel, gardening and body boarding off the Pembrokeshire coast – when the weather allows!
