Rosalind Spittle | Amwins Global Risks
In my early days as a broker in Lloyd’s and the London Market we had to call underwriters “Sir”, except for the few women underwriters who were breaking new ground. Through my work, I wanted to change the game and prove why I
belonged. I am grateful times have changed and I attribute the progress we see to the persistence and patience of several generations of women in insurance. I have witnessed two satellite launches, one at Cape Canaveral and the other at Wallops Island, Virginia, that I will never forget. These experiences helped me realise the important role we played in bringing new technology into the world.

Although, nothing is better than doing what I love with my family, whether it is the opera with my husband or running and playing tennis with my daughters. From a broking perspective, a piece of advice I would give is to find a mentor in your company or at an underwriting syndicate you deal with on a regular basis. Build good relationships with underwriters and other brokers. Remember to always be honest, respectful, and leave on good terms. Insurance is driven by relationships and a network that helps you learn and grow opens up new opportunities.
