Claire Walters | Liberty
From the age of 16 I worked in Finance but came to Insurance late in my career. In fact I had already seen my 50th birthday when I joined Liberty Speciality Markets on a short-term contract. Having taken voluntary redundancy after 17 years in my previous company my intention was to spend the next few years doing contract work. However, I found a company that matched my values and gave me a great opportunity, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The one piece of advice I would give now is think more about what you want to do.
University was not an option for me as I wanted a job and to start earning money. My dream was to join the police, but it was not to be so I did the next best thing and got a job in a bank! The one piece of advice I would give now is think more about what you want to do. You are working for a long time, so you must enjoy your job. Outside of work I love walking my Springador, occasional running and generally keeping fit.
I love watching my two teenage boys play football and enjoy my skiing holidays although I am still not very good at it. I am also studying for a counselling qualification.
