During my 36 years in insurance, I have worked in most areas of the industry: personal lines, liability, commercial combined, schemes, private medical underwriting, and then into broking, first regional and then Corporate. I am the career advisor for the local CII and have been on the committee for about 15 years. I currently sit on the I&D workstream ‘ageism and disability’ – I am passionate about passing on knowledge and helping out where I can.
I use my humour to embrace all of life’s changes and this gives me a very positive outlook for the future.
From early on in my career I recognised certain parts of being a woman, like taking time off for children and your appearance, could go against you in your career. However, things are evolving and changing. I hope to help inspire the younger generations to join insurance as it can be a rewarding career.
I use my humour to embrace all of life’s changes and this gives me a very positive outlook for the future. I love holidays and theatre and I am a very social person who is open to new things.
My main piece of advice is: do not take yourself too seriously. I believe people should be themselves and ask questions wherever possible, because there are people who will be willing to help, and I am one of them.
