Jo Hookings | Ageas Insurance
I left banking after 20 years, not realising how transferable my managerial skills were. Despite not having worked in insurance before, I was able to prove myself by running an extremely successful servicing team and exceeding targets each year. Following redundancy, I eventually found myself working as a team leader for Ageas household claims. I had no experience in claims, but again learnt quickly on the job. As a woman in my late 40s, I moved into a new career path within Ageas, as a Data Analyst, a result of my curiosity for data. I am extremely proud that in January 2022 I completed my BCS Level 4 apprenticeship data analyst. I hope to show age has no barrier to lifelong learning.
None of us know everything. Sometimes the smallest piece of learning can make a great difference
It has been a challenge as a single parent of two, including supporting a now 17 year old son Finn, previously Isabelle, with gender identity and transgendering, while also investigating and supporting their late diagnosis of autism. I am a firm believer that we should not pigeonhole ourselves. None of us know everything. Sometimes the smallest piece of learning can make a great difference. I believe people should use every interaction as an opportunity.
